I first heard Ezekiel Honig in a hotel room in Tallinn. So it's vaguely appropriate to be sharing his lovely, scratchy electronica (also richly dub-laden, particularly the ravishing clanking Interlude) from a hotel room in Barcelona...

Having had to miss out on the tasty Teutonic treat of Hauschka & Mapstation a couple of weeks back, here's some offcuts from this duo's very considered decompositions. The stately shimmer of Red Pencil, which I'm guessing involved both of them, is particularly satisfying.

"Nobody knows what to save"

To these ears, there's almost no excuse for a flute, ever. But here's one: Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson's majestic, mournful & utterly relevant lament for hyper-inflationary post-Nixon America - Winter in America. 

Perversely enough, it's not from the pair's the eponymous 1973 album - but rather the subsequent First Minute of a New Day; & also available on various Gil compilations (many of them featuring the redoubtable jazz poet in alarming 80s leisurewear in a clumsy & not very successful attempt to boost sales) - try this one or, for dowloads, this. 

Bonus track: LMYE's by now brazen & increasingly desperate bid to get some attention for this awesome splicing of fairly minimal techno pulses & swirls with soaring Obama rhetoric: We Cannot Turn Back - a LMYE-curated extract from Francois K @ Minitek.

Something for September (re-up)

If three German lap-toppers improvising together sounds like your idea of an inner circle of Dante's Inferno, think again. There may be chin-stroking, there may be over-earnest philosophising in the background & there may be a very dodgy title. But September Collective's All the Birds Were Anarchists on mosz is a delight - pretty but not cute, alive with ideas & noises, rich in mood & clicky, shuffling texture.
